Is Hell Real and Why Do People Go There?

Luke 16:19-24; John 3;16-18; 36

“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. ²⁰ But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, ²¹ desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² So it was that the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Korah, with all their goods. ³³ So they and all those with them went down alive into the pit; the earth closed over them, and they perished from among the assembly. (Numbers 16:32-33)

The rich man lifted up his eyes, being in torment and he said for I am tormented in this flame.

1. People do not go to hell because they are sinners.

2. People do not go to hell because they won’t stop their sinning.

3. People do not go to hell because of the kind of sins they commit.

4. People do not go to hell because they don’t live like Christians.

5. People do not go to hell because they haven’t been baptized.

6. People do not go to hell because God sends them there.

There’s only one reason people go to hell.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

UNBELIEF

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3:36)

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the Lake of Fire. (Revelation 20:15)
